She too can fly…
After almost two months of interactive workshops and one-on-one consultations with the mentors, each of us was asked to construct an exhibit culminating all of the things we had learned during the program.
My concept was to examine blackness from the female perspective within what we know to be as ‘sneaker culture’. My exhibit reflects the perspective of black adolescence. It takes you into a young girl’s bedroom, highlighting elements that indulge in music, sport, fashion, and family.
Through the construction of this concept, I created ‘Sugar Athletics’, a brand dedicated to uplifting the voices of black femmes.
